Abstract

Language is a human phenomenon with multiple aspects. On the one hand, it is a psychological phenomenon and on the other hand it is a social phenomenon. Therefore, I found interest from scholars in various fields, and at the beginning of the twentieth century, and with the influence of the pioneer of sociology, Emil Dor Chayem, language was classified as a social phenomenon by the linguist de Saussure, and this classification resulted in the application of the principles of the positivism approach as defined by Dor Chayem on language. This study aims to identify the positivism approach in its social form, the implications of its application on the language, and the position of modern Arab researchers regarding the application of its principles to the Arabic language. Using the descriptive analytical approach, the study reached several results, including: that the social positivist thought has been associated since its inception with specific circumstances and has remained influenced by ideology, and the application of its principles to social phenomena has led to some contradiction. In addition, linguistics has turned into a taxonomic science steeped in descriptiveness; result; Therefore, some researchers called not to apply its principles to the social sciences.
