Abstract

The study aims to shed light on the important changes witnessed by Japan’s security and defense policy because of the regional impacts in East Asia after the end of the Cold War, represented by China's rise and its regional hegemonic ambition, through extending its maritime influence in the South and East China Seas. AS well as the continuation of the PLA modernization process, besides the ongoing maritime dispute in the East China Sea over the Senkaku\Diaoyu Islands, who claimed by China and controlled by Japan.

The study concluded that the maritime dispute between Japan and China in the East China Sea, besides China’s continuous pursuit of the process of military modernization and the power projection in the South and East China Seas, Founding an uncertain situation for Japan toward China’s future intentions.
