Abstract

There has been an important shift in the nature of Iraqi-Egyptian relations as Iraqi governments formed after 2003 tried to restore relations with many Arab countries, including Egypt. Especially, when these relations were going through a state of imbalance, mainly during the era of the Sixties as Egypt agreed to the Rogers Peace Project with Israel until the Seventies era when Egypt signed the Camp David agreement in 1978, which negatively affected the relationship between the two countries. Despite the improvement of these relations during the Iranian-Iraqi war and Egypt’s position of supporting Iraq, this improvement did not last long, as Egypt quickly stood against Iraq after invading Kuwait in the early 1990s, which led to the deterioration of relations between the two countries. However, after 2003, relations between the two countries witnessed a qualitative shift particularly on the political side. Economic relations have also witnessed a significant development as the volume of trade exchange between the two countries amounted to billions of dollars. This indicated the depth of the relations that linked both countries
