Abstract

Description is one of the most important elements of literary works. It can be found in old Arabic and Persian literature and have been manifested well in poems of poets. One of the effects of description is describing the nature and its phenomena such as floods, storms, earthquakes etc. literalists have described the nature, but they have not described natural phenomena as they have described nature itself. To The earthquake is one of the phenomena that poets have less concern, but in spite of other poets, Hafiz Ibrahim and Davari Shirazi have described it interesting. Hence, this article compares between these two Ballads “مسينا زلسال : the earthquake in Messina” by Hafiz Ibrahim and “زلسله شيراز : the earthquake of Shiraz” by Davari Shirazi in terms of thematic and technical. This article relies on comparative approach of American school of comparative literature which does not consider affecting being affected as a condition in comparing between two poets. The findings of this paper show that two poets describe the magnitude of earthquake. They also hope to revive two earthquake-stricken cities, but on points of dispute, Davari Shirazi pays more attention to details than Hafiz Ibrahim.
